Completely Bespoke Design and Fabrication

One of the most challenging commissions we’ve completed to date was the re-design and creation of the signage behind the counter of Castle Rocks and Jewelry.

We presented the concept to the owners of the store that we recreate their sign but maintain the integrity of the logo in the new signage. After generating some rough sketches to communicate the design intent to the client, we received approval to proceed and move to 3D modeling and design.

The core concept of the new design was to use solid cherry hardwoods as 50+ individual vanes, mounted to a back-lit wall-mounting system. These solid cherry hardwood vanes would also include a 3-dimensional topography to them, which gives the idea of the logo being dropped into liquid, creating subsequent ripples.

After a few revisions, the client loved the resultant design and approved us to move forward with the design. At this point, it was time to convert the 3D geometry to output files that could be cut on the Inventables XCARVE PRO CNC.

Each of the 50+ solid cherry hardwood vanes was individually cut on the CNC and number for ease of installation. At this point, all design elements moved to Wonderland – What we call our primary craft space. From here, Melanie, Josh, and Cale went to work continuing the design.

Some enhancements to the design included adding a copper foil overlay to the ring elements of the logo, and adding laser cut and bent clear acrylic overlays to the gemstone elements of the logo.

Once all of the 50+ individual vanes were ready, we were ready to move on to laser cutting the lettering for the sign.

The lettering received the same copper foil overlay as the ring elements. Once the lettering was complete, it was time to schedule the installation!
