Industrial Pipe and Hickory Desk

This was a big challenge for me!
This project came with maximum-customization. I spent weeks discussing this build with the client and making sure their needs were clearly communicated and met!
Some key requirements of this build were:
- Wall-Mounted (Yikes! This thing weighed almost 200 pounds when done!)
- Made from 1.5“ diameter industrial safety pipe
- Top and shelves made from solid Hickory
- Curved edges so people didn’t run into it while walking past it
- At least two fixed lights
- At least two shelves
- Built-In wireless device charging
I was able to deliver on all the requirements above and also added touch lighting to the build. This allowed the client to tap any metal part of the desk to cycle between low, medium, and high brightness and a final tap to turn the lights off
The custom antique finish was achieved by sand blasting all parts first, followed by a couple of coats of high gloss metallic gold paint, followed by several coats of oil-based stain, applied with a blotting sponge. This effect, along with burnishing a few edges here and there to expose the gold really sells the distressed look
